One reason why people are having performance issues is because our people performance systems are not in place yet! Hmm, will start to build them asap! I imagine that it's like building the rules for any sport, the rule need to be clear, there needs to be some element of luck in winning, a lot of team spirit required for success and consequences for failure and victory. Most of all there should be a large, clean and simple Score Board in the middle of the office!

Great Point! Performance Systems is quite good means of fighting poor performance issues. It sets clear and concise rules of what is required from employees and how they can reach success within the Company. Also I would say that best performance systems are the ones that CLEARLY outline the short term and long term objectives of the Company (for staff) and the rewards that come with it :) Although, it has one critical issue, in order for PI's to be effective, it needs constant monitoring and reviewing/update, and one has to assess if it adds more value to business, than it costs to collect and use. In short, I guess, PI’s should be directional, quantitative and worthwhile :)
I totally agree that a standard must be set up to make people perform better and more effectively.

I agree with your ideas. Two key elements that greatly influence performance are setting clear expectations as well as short-term and long-term goals for the individuals and company as a whole. It is also important to implement an incentive and rewards program, which is particularly good for those who are goal-oriented! These nuts and bolts of the business will impact the overall productivity and results and it will help to create a basis to measure their success as well as your own. One important consideration for leaders that goes hand in hand with achieving expectations is making time to provide continuous feedback and constructive criticism.
